BOARD CHAIR

Gertrude W. Karugaba is the chair of the FSD Uganda Board and the Human Resources and Compensation Committee(HRCC).

Gertrude is a commercial lawyer and a Partner at Sebalu & Lule Advocates. Previously, she was Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws(LLB) from Makerere University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice(Dip. LP) from Law Development Center and a Master of Law(LLM) from University of Cambridge.

Dr. Winifred Tarinyeba Kiryabwire is a Board Member and also chairs the Program Investment Committee (PIC).

Dr. Tarinyeba is a full-time tenured Senior Lecturer and Head of Commercial Law Department at Makerere University.

She holds Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Makerere University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) from Law Development Center, a Master of Law (LLM) from University of Cambridge, and a Master of Science of Law Degree (JSM) and Doctor of Science of Law degree (JSD) from Stanford University.

Robert Busuulwa is a Board member and also chairs the Audit, Finance and Risk Committe of FSD Uganda.

Robert is the proprietor and owner of BRJ Partners, the accounting and tax advisory correspondent firm of Mazars. Previously he was a partner at BDO East Africa, Uganda.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from Thames Valley University, ACCA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and certification from the Investment Management Regulatory Organization (now the Financial Services Authority).

Samuel has over 15+ years of professional experience in the areas of smallholder agriculture, development finance and impact investing. He presently works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where he manages a portfolio focused on rural and agriculture finance and related smallholder risk interventions in emerging markets (covering Sub-Saharan Africa and India). Prior to this he spent 8 years managing the Africa portfolio and investment activities of a leading global social impact fund; and before that was a rating analyst with a global microfinance rating agency. Samuel began his career as an agriculture credit analyst at Centenary Bank in Uganda. He holds an MSc. International Development Finance from Reading University (UK) and a BSc. Agriculture Economics from Makerere University (Uganda).

Olga Morawczynski is a senior manager at Mastercard Foundation. Morawczynski manages a portfolio of projects focusing on financial inclusion and job creation at the Mastercard Foundation. She has spent close to a decade actively working in the financial inclusion sector. She has engaged closely with low-income clients to better understand their financial needs, and financial service providers to design and scale impactful solutions. Morawczynski has published her work widely, both through peer-reviewed journals and industry-focused publications. She has been cited by popular media periodicals, including CNN and the Economist. Morawczynski has a Ph.D. in science and technology studies from the University of Edinburgh and continues to actively innovate in the industry, engaging providers, regulators and customers to push the boundaries on what is possible in development.
