BOARD CHAIR

Gertrude W. Karugaba is the chair of the FSD Uganda Board and the Human Resources and Compensation Committee(HRCC).

Gertrude is a commercial lawyer and a Partner at Sebalu & Lule Advocates. Previously, she was Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws(LLB) from Makerere University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice(Dip. LP) from Law Development Center and a Master of Law(LLM) from University of Cambridge.

Robert Busuulwa is a Board member and also chairs the Audit, Finance and Risk Committe of FSD Uganda.

Robert is the proprietor and owner of BRJ Partners, the accounting and tax advisory correspondent firm of Mazars. Previously he was a partner at BDO East Africa, Uganda.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from Thames Valley University, ACCA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and certification from the Investment Management Regulatory Organization (now the Financial Services Authority).

Samuel Ssenyimba

Samuel has over 15+ years of professional experience in the areas of smallholder agriculture, development finance and impact investing. He presently works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where he manages a portfolio focused on rural and agriculture finance and related smallholder risk interventions in emerging markets (covering Sub-Saharan Africa and India). Prior to this he spent 8 years managing the Africa portfolio and investment activities of a leading global social impact fund; and before that was a rating analyst with a global microfinance rating agency. Samuel began his career as an agriculture credit analyst at Centenary Bank in Uganda. He holds an MSc. International Development Finance from Reading University (UK) and a BSc. Agriculture Economics from Makerere University (Uganda).

Fabian Kasi is member of the FSD Uganda Board and Audit, Finance & Risk Committee (AFRC).

Fabian has a background in accounts, audit and management in the finance sector. He is currently the Managing Director of Centenary Bank. Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of FINCA Uganda Ltd.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Newcastle. Fabian is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) of United Kingdom and a full member of the Association of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.

Deena M. Burjorjee is member of the FSD Uganda Board and Programme Investment Committee (PIC).

Deena has over 20 years of experience working in microfinance and private sector development, with a specific focus on financial inclusion policies, market facilitation and gender programming. She is currently a Senior consultant with The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP).

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (International Affairs) from the University of Maine and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

Emma Mugisha is member of the FSD Uganda Board and Programme Investment Committee (PIC).

Emma is a seasoned banker with roots in micro-finance and experience in treasury management. She is currently the Director of Corporate and Investment Banking at Stanbic Bank Uganda. Prior to this, she was the bank’s Head of Transaction and Product Services, Corporate and Investment Banking.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Work & Social Administration) from Makerere University and a master’s degree in Business Administration (General Management) from the Rotterdam School of Management - Erasmus Graduate School of Business.
