BOARD CHAIR

Gertrude W. Karugaba is the chair of the FSD Uganda Board and the Human Resources and Compensation Committee (HRCC).

Ms. Karugaba is a commercial lawyer with over 17 years’ experience in banking and finance law, and corporate and commercial transactional law.

She is currently a Partner at Sebalu & Lule Advocates. Prior to this position, Ms. Karugaba served as the Head Legal and Company Secretary at Stanbic Bank Uganda and was also the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Stanbic Bank Uganda Staff Pension Fund.

Ms. Karugaba holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Makerere University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) from the Law Development Center and a Master of Law (LLM) from the University of Cambridge.

Robert Busuulwa is a Board member and chairs the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee (AFRC).

Mr. Busuulwa’s professional experience in public auditing and practice spans over 25 years. He is the proprietor of Mazars BRJ, a certified public accounting, audit, and tax advisory member firm of Mazars Group.

Mr. Busuulwa holds a Bachelor of Law from Thames Valley University, certification from the Investment Management Regulatory Organization (‘IMRO’) and is both a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (‘ICAEW’) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.

Samuel Ssenyimba is a Board member and chairs the Programme Investment Committee (PIC).

Mr. Ssenyimba has over 15 years of professional experience in microfinance, smallholder and agriculture SME lending, social impact investing and international development finance.

He presently works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, managing a portfolio focused on digital innovation, rural risk, and agriculture finance. Prior to this role he managed the Africa portfolio of a Zurich-based global impact VC fund.

Mr. Ssenyimba holds a Bachelor of Science - Agriculture Economics from Makerere University and a Master of Science - Development Finance from the University of Reading (United Kingdom).

Fabian Kasi is a Board Member and member of the Audit, Finance & Risk Committee (AFRC).

Mr. Kasi is a finance and accounting specialist with expertise in accounting, audit, and finance management. Mr. Kasi is the current Managing Director of Centenary Bank Uganda Limited. Prior to this role, he was the Managing Director of FINCA Uganda Ltd, a microfinance deposit-accepting institution in Uganda.

Mr. Kasi holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Newcastle. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) of United Kingdom and a member of the Association of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.

Deena M. Burjorjee is a Board Member and member of the Programme Investment Committee (PIC).

Ms. Burjorjee is an independent consultant with over 20 years of experience working in microfinance and private sector development, with a specific focus on financial inclusion policies, market facilitation and gender programming.

Ms. Burjorjee is currently a senior Financial Sector Specialist with The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) where she acts as the Strategic Advisor to FinEquity – a global community of practice for women’s financial inclusion.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts - International Affairs - from the University of Maine and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

Emma Mugisha is a Board Member and member of the Programme Investment Committee (PIC).

Ms. Mugisha is a seasoned banker with expertise in commercial banking, product development and commercialization, and treasury management.

Ms. Mugisha is currently the Director of Corporate and Investment Banking at Stanbic Bank Uganda, a commercial bank licensed by the Bank of Uganda. Prior to this, she was the bank’s Head of Transaction and Product Services, Corporate and Investment Banking.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work & Social Administration from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration in General Management from the Rotterdam School of Management - Erasmus Graduate School of Business.
