The Start of a Journey to Build a More Sustainable and Value Adding Research Ecosystem

We were honoured as Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Uganda to collaborate with the Makerere University Business School on this research project.

FSD Uganda has a pro-poor financial inclusion mandate that seeks to address market systems constraints to extending formal financial services to the marginalised population segments -women, youth, persons with disabilities, forcefully displaced persons and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In executing our mandate, research is a critical pillar of what we do. In the absence of sufficient knowledge and understanding of the marginalised, it is impossible to design program interventions, products, and solutions that would meet the needs of our target population.

Considering that sustainability is one of the key tenets of our work, we have made it our mission to seek out collaborations with higher institutions of learning with core competences and experience in research, to support them in integrating financial inclusion research within their academic programs.

The collaboration with Makerere University Business School is the first of many similar collaborations that FSD Uganda is going to pursue with other higher institutions of learning. This is with the aim of building a more sustainable and value adding research ecosystem with a focus on financial inclusion in Uganda.
