Gender and financial inclusion in rural Uganda
Focus Groups: All
Tools of Impact: Techical Assistance, Catalytic Grant
Partners: Bidhaa Sasa
Synopsis: The project piloted a framework where mobile payments were used by rural women to pay for household goods. Bidhaa Sasa distributed and financed a range of household goods in rural areas targeting women, offering a range of household goods that improve the quality of life of rural families including technologies for clean lighting, for clean cooking and for more efficient farming. Women have been traditionally left behind by most rural household goods distributors including the solar PAYGO. Learnings on gender and financial inclusion will be used to scale up the product offering.
